RATULOWSKI, Ted Ratulowski - It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing at age 68, on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at William Osler Medical Centre in Brampton. He was surrounded by family.
Ted is survived by his wife Halina of 43 years, daughters Liane (Tyler) Francey, Krysia (Shannon) Mahon, Carole (Oliver) Ocampo, Emily Ratulowski, grandchildren Jaxson, Xavier, Amelia, Katelyn, Charlie, Sophia, Luke and Isabelle, mother-in-law Adela Dubiel, brother-in law Richard (Virginia) Dubiel, and Alex.
Sister Stasia (Alex) Marko, and extended family.
Ted was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Maria Ratulowski.
Ted was born in Ratulow, Poland on May 22, 1950, and immigrated to Toronto Canada with his parents Joseph and Maria and his sister, Stasia, eventually settling into the Polish Roncesvalles neighbourhood. In 1973 he met his wife, Halina while still chasing dreams of being a rock star. Ted was an avid musician and loved his guitars and his Beatles. While looking like one of the lost members of Jefferson Airplane, he pursued his future wife after being set up by their parents, even though for the first 6 weeks of their budding romance, Ted thought her name was “Helen” and referred to her as such. Halina of course did not have the heart to tell him that that wasn’t her name and let it slide. While Ted worked as a film stripper with 27 years at Transcontinental Canada he was also an avid handyman and was a jack of all trades and was proficient in everything from basic plumbing and electrical to carpentry. All his son-in-laws knew they were accepted into the family after he checked out whether they could do the task he has assigned them. Later in life, he would take those skills out to operate his own contracting business. He loved his growing family and devoted himself to being a provider for his wife and children and would take any and every shift so that Halina could be a stay at home mom with their four daughters.
Ted loved golf, was a die-hard, long-time supporter of the Leafs and was a fan of sports in general. He was notorious for his inventive soup recipes and his equally potent formulas for Polish cabbage (kapusta). He was a lover of history and was often glued to the television watching historical documentaries or programs on the History Network. His true passion and favourite hobby was shopping for cars to the point where virtually every dealership in Brampton knew Ted on a first name basis. Ted was your consummate joker and loved the one liners and could truly appreciate good humour. He was the king of the “dad” joke and was the self-proclaimed inventor of “Valentinski Day” (a jab at the annual hallmark holiday of “Valentine’s Day”) where he proudly declared that his holiday was celebrated every leap year and could only be honoured once every four years. Ted loved his four daughters and all his grandchildren and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held at Brampton Funeral Home, Brampton on November 6th from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will take place at St. Leonards Roman Catholic Church, 187 Conestoga Drive, Brampton on November 7th at 11:30 AM.
