Maize MaureenMAIZE, Ann Maureen - Maureen passed away on January 30, 2019 peacefully at Markham Stouffville Hospital in her 85th year following complications from pneumonia.

After suffering a stroke 5 years ago, she never fully recovered what she had lost, but her beauty and courageous spirit only seemed to get stronger and brighter with each passing day. She was full of good humour and always a little mischievous right up until the end.

Maureen will be missed most, however, for her generous loving heart towards her children and to all who knew her; every day she prayed for those in need—her Catholic faith was central to her life. Her smile could light up a room and, even after losing much of her speech, she never stopped singing!

She was the beloved mother to James, Susan and Thomas in Ontario and Tara (Rennie) Morton of Nova Scotia, wife to Delmer (pre-deceased in 2005), and grandmother to Logan and Rhett Morton of Nova Scotia.

She is pre-deceased by her sister Eileen (Dan) Wilson and parents Frederick Silvio Vassella and Leona Agnes Taillon of Kingsbridge, Ontario.

She is survived by her sisters Yvonne (James) Sinnett, Betty Lou (Mike) Dalton, Linda (Art) Bowler, Dianne (Chuck) Anderson, all of Goderich, her brother Carl (Joan) Vassella in Owen Sound, and her sister-in-law Marlene (Gerry) Larocque in Milton, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews who knew her affectionately as Auntie Mo.

Her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nursing staff in the ICU at Markham Stouffville Hospital, the wonderful caring staff at the Woodhaven LTC which was home for the past 5 years, her part-time weekend caregiver Yvonne, but most of all to Cathy Hounsell who was her full-time care giver for 5 years, and who made these years some of the best of her life. We are forever indebted to all of you.

Visitation will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, Markham, ON on Wednesday February 6 from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 9 pm with a Celebration of Life service between 7 and 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
