Pollock SamPOLLOCK, Samuel Richard - Sam died peacefully at home in Scarborough, a short time after being diagnosed with cancer on September 22, 2019.

Sam loved life and he celebrated it by bringing people together, through laughter, song and a readiness to offer a helping hand, wherever it might be needed.

Sam could fix anything (even and especially without instructions!) and he could usually figure out a solution or a way forward, no matter what the problem.

A kind and thoughtful man, he made his corner of the world a better place for all who knew him.

Beloved father of Catherine Maine (John) of Kitchener, Anita Millar (Ray Fortune) of Toronto, and Tim Pollock (Norma) of Penetanguishene, and much-loved grandfather to Joshua Maine and Aaron and Robin Pollock.

In 2005 he was predeceased by Elizabeth Pollock (nee Longo), his wife of 49 years.

Sam will be lovingly remembered by the extended Longo family of Toronto, including brother-in-law John, sisters-in-law Joanne and Rose, and by his many nieces and nephews and their families.

Family in Ireland will miss him too, including the extended Pollock family in Co. Leitrim, Northern Ireland, England and the US.

Sam was also predeceased in March of this year by his companion Margaret Strachan, and he will be sadly missed by her children Janet Coe, Karen Thomas, Paul Davis and their families.

Many friends in the Toronto area and from the Wexford Residence and Chester Village will also remember him fondly.

In 2003 he was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis, a slow-acting disease that sapped his physical strength. Yet even with this limitation, Sam continued to enjoy travelling, musical theatre, social and family events.

Remember this most wonderful dad, grandpa and friend at Highland Funeral Home, Scarborough. Visitations to be held on Saturday, September 28th from 6-8 pm and Sunday, September 29 from 11 am – 1 pm. A service in memory of Sam will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday followed by a reception.

Donations may be made to the The Myositis Association or The Canadian Cancer Society but the best way to remember Sam is by spending time with someone who needs cheering up, maybe with a joke, a story or a song.
