Fennell SheilaFENNELL, Sheila Marie - With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Sheila Marie Fennell, of Toronto on December 4, 2019.

Daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Troke) Fennell, formerly of Whitney Pier.

She was predeceased by sisters Leona MacDonald and Joyce Avent (Chris).

Her surviving siblings are sisters Constance Hope (New York), Mary McCloskey (Vermont), Margaret and Theresa Fennell (Toronto) and brothers Ron and Mike (Lorraine) of Nova Scotia and Tom (Tina) of Newfoundland.

She was aunt to sixteen nieces and nephews and great-aunt to their sixteen offspring.

Sheila graduated from St. F.X. University and at first embarked on a teaching career in Ontario. She pursued further education in Systems Technology and retired from her systems design position with the Ontario Government after thirty years of service.

She was the fourth child and third daughter in a family of ten where personalities were large and a-mostly comic chaos prevailed. She was a placid, puzzled and often bemused participant in this family circus. She loved chocolate fudge, old movies and especially music. In her early years in Toronto she was a regular at Sam the Record Man store in search of the latest L.P.’s. Her father teased that she was his good-looking daughter and Eddie at the music store agreed; she always snagged a bargain. Her substantial movie and music collections were lifelong treasures.

Sheila was proud of her inherited stubborn streak which was her mantle in her battle with Parkinson’s disease. She gave no quarter to this affliction and resisted any attempts to restrict her pursuits in defiance of its symptoms. Her placid demeanour sometimes belied her gritty spirit and wry sense of humour. Her non sequiturs were sometimes head spinning and wholly entertaining. All said; a unique soul, generous to friends and family.

As with the prior losses of her parents and two sisters, her family is diminished by her passing but grateful for the memories and we wish her God Speed.

Memorial donation in Sheila’s memory may be made to any animal-related charity of your choice.
