Szego PeterSZEGO, Peter - (September 27, 1936December 10, 2019) - Peter Szego passed away in Toronto on Tuesday December 10, 2019, surrounded by family.

He is survived by Patricia (Ryan), his beloved wife of 53 years, children Andrea (Aldo Sorrenti), Christine, and Michael (Lianne Schoenfeld), along with grandchildren Graydon, Mitchell, Emmett, and Eve.

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936, Peter arrived in Canada in 1956. He lived and worked in Montreal, then moved to Ottawa where he completed both a B. Soc. Sci. and an M.S.W. at St. Patrick’s College, University of Ottawa.

Peter moved to Toronto to join the public service where he held a variety of executive policy positions within various Ontario government ministries with a special emphasis on Sport, Recreation, and Social Welfare.

His work organizing the Ontario and Canada Games allowed him to travel to every province and territory in Canada and to many countries around the world. He believed in the ability of sport to build life skills and forge relationships, was a passionate sports fan, and an excellent duplicate bridge player.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Harmony Hills on O’Connor Drive for their attentive care.

All are welcome to attend a memorial service and reception for Peter on Sunday December 22nd, at 1:00pm at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home (2570 Danforth, at Main, in Toronto).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Right To Play organization https://www.righttoplay.ca/ to promote access to sport for all children.
