ASPIOTIS, George - It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of George Aspiotis in the late afternoon of July 22, 2020.
George passed peacefully in his home at the age of 84, surrounded by loving family members who helped him through the last chapter of his life.
Husband to Efrosini and father to Steve and Jim (Cheryl), George’s greatest joy came from being a loving and sweet Papou to Demetra and Victoria, who kept him busy, vibrant and smiling.
George travelled from a small village in Greece to make a new life in Canada in 1963 for his family and left his parents, siblings and relatives behind in Greece to make this journey. He was joined in Canada by his brother Alex (Yianoula) and they have never been far apart. George was always charismatic and proud and enjoyed socializing in Greek coffee shops where he played cards while talking politics.
George will be greatly missed here in Canada and back home in Greece.
The family would like to thank his doctors, nurses and personal support workers who made his last days comfortable and dignified. In particular, Mount Sinai’s Tammy Lautner Centre for Palliative Care provided the dignity and respect he earned in his long life.
Visitation will be held at Paul O’Conner Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Funeral Services will be held at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, July 30th at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road.
