Bourassa MadeleineBOURASSA, Madeleine Marie - January 8, 1931 - September 20,2020

Madeleine, spouse of the late Allen Bourassa and mother of Nicole Bourassa-Burke of Scarborough died peacefully on September 20, 2020 at Craiglee Nursing Home with her daughter at her side.

Madeleine was a proud Franco-Ontarian who was a life-long resident of East Toronto having been born in the first year of operation of the former Toronto East General Hospital.

As a younger woman she resided with her parents, and then eventually as a newlywed, on Coleridge Avenue in East York.

In 1967 she and Allen bought a home in the Upper Beaches on Gainsborough Road and remained in the home until an injury forced her to move to Craiglee Nursing Home in Scarborough in 2015 and resided there until her passing.

Madeleine was a devout Catholic. In the 50’s until the early 70’s she regularly attended St. Brigid’s Church, her local parish, and was a member of their Catholic Women’s League and various committees. However, she always remained connected to her primary francophone parish, Sacre Coeur where her and Allen were married in 1954.

In the 70’s until Allen’s death in 2006 they served Paroisse Sacre Coeur together, serving as a members of their social committee and as ministers of communion.

She was a social butterfly speaking to almost everyone she met.

Madeleine is pre-deceased by her parents, Julien and Exilda Joly and her brother, Armand Hebert and is survived by four adult grandchildren: Amanda Burke (Greg Watts), Justin Burke (Cassie), Patrick Burke and David Burke all of Scarborough. She also leaves three great-grandchildren: Amy, Julianne and Kieran Watts.

Nicole is grateful for and acknowledges the support for many years of her close and dear friend, Dee Viau.

Arrangements with Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto.  The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday September 26th at 11:00 am at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church, 381 Sherbourne St.  A private interment will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Glen Rhodes Food Program, where she and Allen volunteered for many years, would be appreciated.
