BRAATEN (formerly SAMANSKI), Mary Dean   - Registered Nurse, ECE (diploma), founding and life member of the Canadian Association of Music Therapists, Master Ed.,

Passed away at Toronto on December 2, 2020 at the age of 93.

Mary Dean was born on March 18, 1927 to Oscar and Clara Braaten, prairie pioneers, and sister to 8 siblings, who predeceased her.

She is survived by her children, Joy, Donna, Ken, Karen and John, and 13 very special grandchildren.

Mary Dean was loved by a vast constellation of extended family, new and old friends, neighbours and former students and colleagues from her nursing days to her last working days at Humber College.

From her teenage years until her passing, she volunteered with and supported many charitable causes and organizations, including the hearing impaired, the homeless and the Travellers' Aid Society.

At Mary Dean's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

She asked to be remembered by each loved one in their own way. Her ashes will be taken "home" to Abbey, SK, to be with her parents.

Her spirit will be borne on the prairie wind to her star, to the music of the family anthem, the "Clarinet Polka".

If you wish to make a donation in Mary Dean's memory, please consider the Regent Park School of Music or the Daily Bread Food Bank. Or, as she often did, leave some warm clothing in a bag on a bench for a person in need.
