Leung FranklinLEUNG, Dr. Franklin Kam Chuen - (October 6, 1928 - January 21, 2021) - Dr. Leung Franklin Kam Chuen passed away peacefully in his sleep at McNicoll Manor Retirement Home, Scarborough, on Thursday January 21, 2021.

Franklin was a beloved patriarch to his family.

Born October 6, 1928, in Hong Kong as the third of five sons of Leung Shiu Tong and Leung Ho Chan, Franklin came to Canada as the first of his family to attend university at the University of British Columbia, where he met his beloved wife and ballroom dance partner, Josephine and moved to Montreal, where Franklin obtained an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from McGill University.

Having devoted his career to the approval of human prescription drugs in Canada with the federal government’s Bureau of Human Drugs, it is beyond cruel that Franklin tested positive for COVID-19 mere hours before he was scheduled to receive his first dose of the vaccine.

Franklin was devoted to his family, including his children Dennis (Jacqueline West), Francois (Susan Kerr) and Annabelle (David Sheffield). Beloved Ayeh to Madelaine, David, Andrew, Robert, Annalise and Carolyn and GonGon to Sierra.

Dearly missed by his younger siblings (Leung Kam Cheung, Melinda (Leung) Lee, Rebecca Mai (Leung) Chau and innumerable nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his brothers Leung Wing Hung, Leung Kam Wing and Leung Kam Chiu.

Franklin’s very well lived life is documented in his many photographs of his family and friends, and of the numerous trips he took with family around the world.

Arrangements are entrusted with Paul O'Connor funeral home, Scarborough. A private virtual memorial was attended by family. A more public celebration of Franklin’s life will be scheduled when the world opens up again.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to The Ottawa Mission or to Diabetes Canada.

Winnie the Pooh encompassed our feelings, when he said, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
