Logue CharlesLOGUE, Charles Andrew - (October 6, 1930 - March 3, 2021)

It is with heartbreaking sadness to announce the peaceful passing of Charles Andrew Logue March 3rd, 2021 in his 91st year with family by his side, the voices of his grandchildren including his eldest grandson from Ireland, and friends from England in his ear, music that he loved (John Denver, George Foreman, Irish tunes, and hymns) and a chaplain sharing prayer.

Charles was born to Margaret (Maggie) Jane Logue nee (Reilley) and Charles Alexander Logue October 6th, 1930, who came to Canada from Londonderry Ireland. Charlie was one of 8 children and was born in Toronto in what is known as the Cabbage Town, Riverdale area. He was the loving and doting brother to his 7 siblings; Robert, Mildred, Norah, Francis, Gloria, David (Morty) and Gayle who predeceased him.

Charles had a wonderful childhood filled with adventures and was always outside until the street lights came on - he climbed the Don Valley bridge, fished in the Don River (imagine!), went to the movies for 10 cents every Saturday, went on summer fishing trips to the Otonabee, enjoyed a rented summer cottage in the Sutton area, and worked at any odd job as a kid that could make him a little money to buy a stick of candy, a Pepsi, get a ticket to the exhibition, or share some of his proceeds with his mother whom he adored.

Charles, attended Leslie Street Public School, Riverdale High School and The University of Toronto, graduating in the “Class of 1956” Physical and Health Education. He was an exceptional athlete, and loved and played all sports including playing hockey for the U of T. He spent his summers during University working on submarines with the University of Naval Training Division to Halifax making $60 every 2 weeks to help pay for his education.

He became a Physical and Health Education teacher in North York after graduating starting at Don Mills and Bathurst High. He absolutely loved teaching and coaching. If he was not in the classroom, he was on the field, in the gym, arena or rink 16 hours a day - sometimes falling asleep with his skates or running shoes on!

Because of his personality and good character, it was suggested that he consider becoming a school Administrator. Charles worked in that capacity until his retirement in his 60’s. Some of the schools he worked at included Dufferin Heights, Elia Junior High, and Beverley Heights Middle School. Many of the friendships forged as a teacher and a school administrator strengthened and continued until today.

During Charles' career, he took a sabbatical and was accepted to the University of Nottingham England where he completed a Masters of Education, taking the family with him for 2 years of travel and learning throughout Europe.

Other highlights of Charles' life included his 4 children (Susan, Judy, Jennifer and Scott) and 3 grandchildren (Ryan, Callum and Hadley) who he could not have been more proud of - his children were his world and he told them that he loved them every day and was proud of each one of them for their strengths, individuality, and closeness.

He loved his many friends of which he maintained many since elementary school - particularly the summer of 42’ers, his beautiful and meaningful Island and cottage in Georgian Bay, his winters in Safety Harbor Florida, 5 Atlantic crossings on the Queen Mary and QE2, and the summers that the profession provided to enhance the bond with his family including times in the backyard makeshift pools, Foote’s cottage, and supporting all of his children’s many interests.

But none of these matched the unparalleled love he had for his wife Suzanne who he said marrying was the best decision he ever made in his life. Charles had acknowledged how much he missed Susie his last 2 weeks of life. He was not whole without her. The fact that he was able to stay with us for 2 ½ years after her passing was nothing but his steadfast commitment to stay with his children as long as he could as that is what Susie would have wanted.

Charles passed at the age of 90+ and was able to celebrate his recent 90th birthday in October in style in the driveway surrounded by family, close friends and neighbours.

He led an exemplary life, filled with love, adventure, wonderful friendships, and no stone left unturned or unfulfilled requests. He had a complete life - who could ask for more? As much as we miss him, and as hard as it was to let him go, we know he is with Mom and all of the special people in his life that have passed before him - and there are many. The party upstairs is certainly unparalleled to any that we could host on Earth given these times. He wanted all of us to be happy, to live our lives to their fullest, be our best and care for each other. That we can truly promise him!

Dad we love you, now and forever and ever. Until we see each other again.

Please keep Susan, Judy (Greg), Jennifer and Scott and grandchildren Ryan, Callum and Hadley in your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

A private family gathering will take place on Tuesday, and a celebration of life will be held to celebrate all that Charles was, is and will be remembered for when we are all vaccinated and able to truly celebrate an incredible life lived to the fullest, when we can all be in close contact again!

A condolence page will be set up for Charles Andrew Logue on the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Site for those who wish to share a condolence. The family appreciates your words, tributes, and photos. Thank you.
