Tom LaiTOM, Lai Sheung (Dong) Tom - Of Toronto passed away peacefully at Kensington Gardens on March 29, 2021.

Lai Sheung was born in a small village in Hoi Ping, China on July 14, 1921, arriving in Canada in 1964 where she worked as a seamstress in the garment district.

At home, she proudly made many quilts on her antique Singer sewing machine. Her love of plants and gardening was a wonder for all the neighbours, especially her harvests of fuzzy squash and tomatoes.

This nurturing spirit extended to her love of her family and our rock and anchor will be dearly missed. Nothing made her happier than seeing all the children play as she took delight in taking daily walks around the park and swinging in the playground.

Family gatherings were very important to her and she enjoyed food and laughter whenever we came together. Her favourite foods included dim sum, bacon, pizza, mango, cappuccino and fresh fish (the fish head was particularly relished).

Lai Sheung was also a feisty fighter who battled back from many setbacks in her life. This included being struck by cars twice, a broken knee cap as well as being run over by a truck in her 80’s to the broken tailbone, hip and leg in her 90’s.

Lai Sheung is survived by her daughters Margaret Lee, Lucille Tom (Rod), Helen Tom-Hackett (Corey) and grand daughters Emily and Maisie (Larry).  After thirty years she will finally be united with her dear husband Young Tom.

Due to the current pandemic restrictions and under direction from our regulator, the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, effective November 23, 2020 all funerals and visitations will be by invitation only to limit the number of people in attendance and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We encourage those that are unable to attend in person to express their sympathy by posting a message of condolence to our website, donating to a charity of your choice in memory of your loved one or by sending flowers to the funeral home.
