CASTELLARIN, Maria - (1934 - 2021) - With heavy hearts, we wish announce the passing of Maria Castellarin, on Friday, May 14, 2021.
Our beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law and “Nonna” was a blessing to our family! Maria worked hard all her life.
Arriving at Pier 21, Halifax in mid 1950’s from a small village in Northeastern Italy, she was reunited with her sweetheart, Antonio and were married in London, ON. From there, they moved to Toronto. They settled in as tenants on Gilbert Street, surrounded by her sister and family who had immigrated years earlier.
She raised her only child, John, while Antonio held steady employment as an Ironworker. They eventually settled in a new home on Crabtree Crescent in Malton.
Maria was a faith-filled, prayerful woman. In her prime she attended weekday and weekly Masses at Our Lady of the Airways parish. Maria loved her Rosary as much as her gardening! She loved cooking incredible family meals, and even if we couldn’t go, food was always there for the taking! She made the best soups and Tiramisu!!! She was very close to her only granddaughter Joanna. She took great pride in all her accomplishments, including her recent move to the Netherlands and wedding.
Maria was the best dog sitter ever! When our beloved Brody passed away last August, it hit her hard. This loss along with being a widow for 19 years, really took an emotional toll on her.
Two years ago, and as a result of her deterioration in her health, she decided to move to Valley Vista Retirement home to be with her older sister. Sadly, Covid isolation and restrictions meant there would be more distancing between our visits.
In the past five months, she began to suffer further declining health issues related to congestive heart failure. She endured endless transfers between Mackenzie Health Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Her most recent transfer, landed her in Humber Region Reactivation Centre. She had passed away just as she finished her 14 day quarantine.
We know that she is at Peace now with no more suffering and no further periods of isolation or quarantine. We miss our daily chats, her 6:30 p.m. phone calls, our visits, her independence and her faith-filled counsel!
We wish to extend our utmost gratitude to the nurses, doctors and caregivers for all their hard work and support for Maria!
+Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shone upon her. May Maria rest in Peace,
