CUNDILL, John Mackay  -

November 6, 1939 - January 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Mackay Cundill, a beloved, kind and caring husband, father and grandfather.

He passed away peacefully, at Cawthra Gardens with his loving wife, Maija, by his side.

Devoted husband, partner and best friend to Maija. Dear father to Susanna (Joe), Barbara (deceased), Stephen (Michele) and Christine (Mark). Amazing stepfather and friend to Andy (Nancy, deceased), Christopher (Paula), Heidi (David) and Robert (France).

Proud and loving grandfather to many grandsons and granddaughters whom he loved and adored. Predeceased by brother, Robert Cundill; and sister, Jean Reay Day. John's strength, determination, and zest for life helped him overcome many challenges.

A double lung transplant received in January 2015 was one of John's challenges. He was a very special person, and his care for others and great sense of humour put anyone at ease.

As a young man, he enlisted in the Canadian Navy and served at sea on two Navy frigates.

After the Navy, he worked at real estate and opened his own home décor business (Homecoming). He enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, playing golf, canoeing and kayaking.

The family wishes to thank Peak Home Health Care, Cawthra Gardens' doctors, nurses and support workers for their kindness and caring.

A private memorial service will be held for John, with a celebration of his life announced at a later date.
