SMITH, Martin Smith - It is with great sadness that we announce our dear Martin Smith has peacefully passed away.
After a long battle with cancer and lung disease he left us on April 3rd 2020 aged 55, at Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa.
He was a beloved father to Cameron Smith his son, and Julia Smith his daughter.
Much loved brother of Jocelyn Snelling, and uncle to Jessica Snelling and Lauren Snelling.
Loved by his wife Silvana MacLellan.
Martin started his career working at the Women's College Hospital in Toronto as an general accountant.
From there he went to work at the Durhams Children Aid Society ending his long career as the Director of Finance in January 2019.
During his tenure he was known for ensuring that the children, youth, and families in the Durham Region were cared for.
He was devoted to his work and loved his many friends at the agency.
He had numerous accolades, having obtained a Bachelors of Commerce, Master of Business Administration, and earning his certification to become a Certified General Accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant.
He will forever be known for his kindness, generosity, and most importantly his phenomenal sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled.
