Mendonca DorotheaMENDONCA, Dorothea Ona  -  Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother, Dorothea Ona Mendonca (nee Vieira) passed away peacefully after a 2 month illness on Saturday, September 1, 2018, in her 100th year.

She was born in Georgetown, British Guyana, South America in 1919, and married twice with 4 children from the first marriage and one from the second. She emigrated to Canada in 1974.

In her youth she enjoyed life, a good party, cooking and tennis. In Guyana, her motherly instincts led her to participate with St. John's Ambulance in providing first aid to those in need.

She is predeceased by her first husband Gerald Martins and second husband Mario Joseph Mendonca, her daughter Patricia McConnell, her son Raymond Martins, her granddaughter Deborah McConnell and her brothers Noel, Herman and Alan Vieira and her sisters Stella Marques and Oline Fernandes.

She will be forever loved and missed by her surviving children Gerard (Junior) Martins (Yvonne), Mary Roberts (Stewart), and Fiona Willison (David).

Loving grandmother to Michele (David), Dwayne (Mary Jane), Nic (Karen), Yolanda, Krista, Stephen (Stacy) and Heather (Kevin).

Fondly remembered by her great grandchildren Bronwen, Brooke, Megan, Daniel, Noah, Kylie, Owen and Ben, and great great grandchildren Alix, Jaxson and Paisley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate caregivers at Norfinch Care Community Sienna Living Long Term Care where she lived for the past 10 years.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Marshall funeral home, Richmond Hill on Friday, September 7, 2018.  Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. and service at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow.
