TAPPING, Hugh Burton   - February 11, 1948 - December 17, 2018

Survived by his chosen family: Susan Horley, love of his life for 35 years, and Russell Vaughan, his best friend.

Hugh was born and raised in Hamilton, son of Burt and Helen (MacNamara) Tapping, brother of Fred Tapping (all deceased).

As a young man, Hugh biked, hiked, worked and wandered through more than 30 countries in Europe, Asia and North Africa. He hitchhiked across Iran and Afghanistan, entering Pakistan at the Khyber Pass (possible in 1976) to explore North West Frontier Province, one of his favorite places and where he learned to cook curry.

Hugh's proudest work was as an activist in the mental health field. He helped spur changes to consent to treatment and substitute decision making legislation in the 1980s and 90s.

An electroshock survivor in his teens, he was forever outraged by its continued existence.

Bain Co-op was his home and community for over 4 decades.

In later years, he struggled with alcohol and tobacco addictions, which damaged his health and untimately shortened his life. There will be no funeral, in accordance with Hugh's wishes.

Acelebration of his life will take place in the new year, date and time to be arranged.
