Gottschald MariaGOTTSCHALD, Maria Giuseppa  -  It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Giuseppa Gottschald (Giose, Giuseppina) announces her passing on Friday, August 2, 2019 at North York General Hospital.  After a difficult illness, Giose died peacefully with loving family by her side. She was in her 90th year.

Giose was the fifth child born to Antonio and Maria Grazia DeAngelis. She always had fond memories of growing up in Atina, Italy with her thirteen brothers and sisters.

After moving to Eastbourne, England, she met and married her sweetheart on Valentine’s Day, 1959. With three young children, the family moved to Canada in search of a better future. Her life has been full of caring for others, hugging them tightly, and of course, making sure they were well fed with meals lovingly prepared for any occasion. In her later years, she bravely battled many illnesses including cancer, without a complaint.

She was the beloved wife of Rudolf, her devoted husband of 60 years, cherished mother of Tony (Wendy), Anna (Kevin), and Maria (Rick), doting grandmother to Erica (predeceased), Kevin, Steven (Brittney), Tina, and Denise, and most loving sister to Bernice (Felicino), Giovanni (Natalina), Domenico (Filomena), Ernesto (Anna), Pasquale (Irida), Rosa (Ron), Immacolata (Valentino), Anita (Remo), Elisa (Pietro), Mario (Maria), Franco (Maria), Remo (Delfina), and Nino (Cesidia), some of whom are no longer with us. She is also survived by her many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to those who showed their love and support during her illnesses, including her many family members and the caring medical team who worked tirelessly to improve her quality of life over the years. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Sunnybrook Hospital, or North York General Hospital.

Giose will be most remembered for her devotion to her family, whom she cherished unconditionally, her sense of humour, warm hugs, her courage, and unwavering faith. At peace in the arms of a loving God, she is deeply missed and will be forever loved.

Visitation will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St., Toronto, on Thursday, August 8th, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 75 Churchill Ave, North York, on Friday August 9th at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Forest lawn Mausoleum
