Nina was born April 15, 1939 to Caterina & Antonio Draga in San Filippo Del Mela Sicily. Nina had three older siblings: Maria, Giuseppina (Peppina), and Santa, later Catena arrived.

Nina married Giuseppe (Joe) Ficarra April 30th, 1956 and shortly after in 1957 they ventured to Canada to start a new life. When they landed in Nova Scotia in November, they were both shocked by the cold weather as it differed from the warmer climate in Sicily.

In 1959, Maria arrived and in 1968, Domenic was born. The family lived in Toronto until the early 1970’s, where they moved to Brampton.

In the early 1970’s Nina was employed with the Bramalea Fruit Market, where she worked until her retirement in the late 90’s.

In 1990, Nina’s grandchildren, twins Jessica and Lucas were born whom she loved dearly. Jessica and Lucas were the center of her life.

On June 29, 1995, Nina’s beloved husband Joe passed away after a battle with brain cancer. Nina missed him immensely and spoke about him daily.

Nina had extended family through her daughter in law Theresa. Theresa’s sons Terry and Kevin and their spouses and children. They were a happy center of her life.

Nina is survived by her children, Maria, (Claudio), Domenic, (Theresa) and grandchildren, Jessica, Lucas. Nina has one surviving sister left, Peppina, and many nieces and nephews.

Nina was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan; she watched every game and missed them during Covid.

Mom “Nonna” is forever in hearts and will be missed more than words can express.

Due to the current conditions and restrictions under COVID 19, a Private Funeral will be held. Arrangements with Ward funeral homes.
