Prostran SlavkoPROSTRAN, Slavko - 90, passed away on the evening of September 27, 2021 in Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital with his son by his side.

Born in 1931 in Smoković near Zadar, in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, to parents Andrija and Pera, Slavko was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and soon-to-be great-grandfather.

Slavko’s schooling started 1938, and was interrupted by war.

Afterward, he would go on to continue his schooling, first in Zadar, then Economy school in Pula, and the College for Foreigen Trade in Belgrade, graduating in September 1952.

After graduation he served as a soldier in the Yugoslav People's Army in the town of Focha. Following his army service, he worked briefly at a “Bagat'' sewing machine factory in Zadar, and as an English teacher at school in Smokovic.

In 1955 he started work in the municipality office in Zemunik. He married Tonka Kusic in October 1957, and they had their sons Velimir in 1959 and Dalibor in 1962. Later, in 1962, he continued his career at the “Textile Company Boris Kidric'' until 1977.

In September 1991 he left Zadar to seek refuge from the war. In September 1996, Slavko immigrated to Canada to join his son, Dalibor, and daughter-in-law, Radmila, who had lived there since 1994.

His grandchildren, Slaven and Neven, and their partners Sarah-Lynn and Breanne, were the pride and joy of his long life, along with his homemade red wine, pita and yogurt. He remained extremely independent throughout his latter years, frequently enjoying long walks. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and ability to tell stories and jokes that filled the lives of his loved ones with joy.

He is survived by his wife, Tonka, sister, Nada, son Dalibor, daughter-in-law, Radmila, as well as his two grandchildren Slaven and Neven, and their partners Sarah-Lynn and Breanne.

Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto on Friday, October 1, 2021. The service will take place at Holy Transfiguration Serbian Orthodox Monastery, 7470 McNiven Road. RR#3, Campbellville, ON on  Saturday, October 02, 2021 at 10:30AM.
