Squires EileenUIRES, Eileen Marion (nee NEWBY)   - July 1, 1924 – April 9, 2021

The family of Eileen Marion Squires sadly announces her passing on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Sunnybrook Veteran's Centre.

She leaves behind daughter Jo-Ann, son Don (Diane), grandchildren Jeremy, Sarah and Kimberly, great-grandson John Vincent and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families (Skirrows, Grays, Yonkers, Elhorns, Barlunds, Newbys, Wilkes, Cary).

Eileen was born in Medicine Hat and raised in Edmonton, Alberta.

She joined the RCAF after graduation from High School and travelled across Canada to train and serve.

She met her husband Andy at CFB Claresholm, Alberta, playing Basketball. He was in final training to be a pilot.

They married in June 1946 and moved to Toronto to raise their family and spend the rest of their lives. Eileen volunteered with Guiding, Scouting, Meals On Wheels, the Canadian Cancer Society for 40-plus years and St. Luke's United Church.

Eileen maintained those friendships through regular phone calls, letters and continued visits as she continued to drive until she was 92. Eileen was always spunky and never minced her words! She told it like she believed it was!

Eileen loved to stay on top of current events and reading the newspaper was a daily routine right up until her final days.

A memorial service will take place at a future date when all friends and family can safely gather to celebrate Eileen's life. Donations in Eileen's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Farewell, sweet dreams – we love you.
